工业设计

The 工业设计 program at the 圣何塞州立大学 offers two degrees:

  • 工业设计学士学位
  • 以及设计学学士学位.

Note: The required sequence of courses for all industrial design majors begins fall 学期只. As such, spring semester admissions are very much  推荐. Instead students are strongly encouraged to apply for fall semester 招生只.

All new design majors are first admitted as 设计学学士 majors, including students intending to pursue a degree 在工业设计中. 接受进入BS工业 Design major is through portfolio review only. Upon successful completion of the first year of study within 设计学学士, students may elect to enroll in DSID32A 和 participate in the 工业设计 Portfolio Review. 未被录取的学生 the 工业设计 program may continue with the 设计学学士 major, or 换一个专业.

Because of the highly competitive 和 specialized nature of industrial design, transfer students may require up to four years of study to complete the 工业设计 上海外国语大学学位.

工业设计 (Professional Degree)

The Bachelor of 科学 工业设计 (BSID) program prepares students for a career 在工业设计中. The curriculum provides courses on design theory, technology, business, science, the arts 和 humanities. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, creative design process management, aesthetic theory, communication skills 和一个wareness of business as well as humanistic dimensions of product development.

The program stresses the importance of professional practice 和 draws upon extensive resources of local 和 internationally prominent design firms 和一个lumni. 工作室的项目 provide experience with a diverse spectrum of products, user scenarios, 和 industries, resulting in a comprehensive professional portfolio.

Students are required to successfully complete a second year portfolio review (DSID123A), 和一个 design relevant professional internship (DSGN127) 在第三年结束之前.

设计学学士 (Liberal Arts Degree)

Students who do 不 pass the review will remain in the BA-设计研究 Program. The program provides a basic underst和ing of the aesthetic 和 technical skills needed 室内设计. Students are encouraged to combine their studies in design with 艺术和其他领域的选修课.

Additionally, a minor from 一个 of the following departments is 推荐: Anthropology, Art 和 Art History, 业务, Computer 科学, English 和 Comparative Literature, Environmental Studies, General 工程, Global Studies, 平面设计, Interior Design, Interaction Design, Journalism 和 Mass Communications, Philosophy, Psychology, 以及城市和区域规划.

学习成果

工业设计:

Upon completion of the program, students will

  • Demonstrate a functional knowledge of design aesthetics to create appropriate 2D 和 三维工件.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think visually to develop design concepts utilizing rapid 2D 和 3D visualization tools 和 techniques.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate, present 和 evaluate design concepts 和 specifications.
  • Articulate a functional underst和ing of manufactured products. 这包括 able to explain to others how products work, what constitutes their structural integrity, 和 what materials 和 manufacturing processes are required to produce them.
  • Apply their knowledge of end-user psychology, ergonomics, anthropometry, 和 user interaction to the design of manufactured products.
  • Investigate, analyze, synthesize, 和 make design decisions based on an ecological underst和ing of the impact of a design. This involves reconciling the priorities 和 concerns of end users with those of business, society, 和 the environment.
  • Describe 工业设计 to others 和 place it in the context of history, business, 和专业实践.
  • Employ a design process that generates products that are useful, usable, 和 desirable to specific segments of the human population. 这将包括理解如何 designers define problems, research contextual issues, determine design requirements, conceptualize 和 evaluate alternatives; 和 test 和 refine solutions.

设计学学士:

Upon completion of the program, students will

  • utilize knowledge gained in classroom to develop discipline-based skills in materials 和技术;
  • demonstrate professional depth of knowledge within their field of study;
  • engage in global views 和 weigh design decisions within the parameters of ecological, 社会经济和文化背景;
  • demonstrate all aspects of the design process to identify complex problems 和 generate solutions that optimize human experiences;
  • engage in multi-disciplinary collaborative work team structures;
  • demonstrate discipline-based design ideas verbally, visually 和 digitally.
